Do you ever feel like you’re changed so much that you no longer relate to previous versions of yourself? That’s definitely happened to me.
Over the past 15 years I’ve gone through so many different phases of self - from being a party girl in London living the wild life, to a travelling nomad with no fixed abode, to a raw vegan health nut obsessed with any new trendy supplement, to a mother dedicated to giving my son the most love filled life I can - things have certainly been shifting.
There is one thread that I’ve always carried with me throughout each stage - a desire to be the best version of myself. To seek the truth and live an intentional life. I would say I’ve been dedicated to a spiritual path (in varying ways) since I was a child and that intention has fuelled my journey.
With that being said, the spiritual seeking life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows (what life is?) and sometimes we have to go through the darkness in order to find our way to the light.
During this past decade I’ve also been through 2 abusive relationships. Even though I can look back now and see how those experiences shaped me and added to my life - it was hard. Like, really hard!
If you follow me online you may know me as a trauma informed yoga teacher, specialising in women’s yoga, and menstrual cycle coach. This is what I do, but it’s what I’ve been through that led me down this path in my work.
The reason I’m telling you all this is because my work is shifting.
Over the past year since I left the second abusive relationship I started to take a deep dive into what patterns I was still repeating, how I was unintentionally still feeding a patriarchal system that I was so ready to dismantle.
All of my work was (and still is) about empowering women yet I was lost in a cycle of limiting beliefs that saw me living out toxic patterns with abusive men. Things had to change.
You see, all of my studies and trainings were fuelled by my desire to empower myself and therefore others.
Women’s yoga gave me a way to feel embodied. To stay ‘in’ my body (I’d spent a long time dissociating) and reframe my connection to myself and to the earth.
Menstrual cycle awareness brought a deeper truth into my life. A truth that no one could take away from me. Which is invaluable if you’ve spent a decade being gaslit.
Trauma informed yoga and nervous system regulation gave me the tools to come out from a survival state, to learn to regulate and be kind to my body.
These tools are what I now offer to others. Because it’s been my exact journey.
Earlier this year I met my partner (in the most easeful and kismet way) and it feels as if my life has entered one of those new phases I was speaking of. I feel ready to share my story and support other women who are going through what I have endured.
Since sharing about this online I’ve had so many of you reach out. Whilst it saddens me that so many women are going through these experiences, I’m so glad to hear from you and be in a position to hold this space.
Healing from abuse doesn’t have to be doom and gloom. We are not living in a state of victimhood.
My work (and personal journey) is about coming to a place of empowerment. To move forward and create the intentional life you dream of. Which is not only just possible - but absolutely WILL happen!
Being in an abusive relationship is not just limited to an intimate partner. Abuse can show up from parents, friends, work colleagues, bosses etc. If what I speak of resonates then my work is for you. I would love to hear from you and get to know your journey too. Feel welcome to send me an email and let’s chat.
