Womb yoga is a practice that’s designed for the female body. Most yoga lineages were born from a male perspective and are centred around the male body. They don’t take into consideration the fact that women are cyclical beings. We go through many different phases in our monthly cycle, our yearly cycle and our life cycle so we require gentle, nourishing practices that give us the space and authority to own whatever phase we’re in.
Through movement, breathing, mudras, mantra and meditation, womb yoga gives us that space to tune into what we truly need in each moment. It gives us permission to be present and honour what our body needs, whether that’s completely different to everyone else in the space or to what we needed another day. Womb yoga grounds us into the present, connects us with our bodies, the earth and most importantly each other.
Having a community of women who are there to share, connect, support and uplift you is an experience like no other. It’s how we were designed to live and yet in many parts of our society it’s been lost. When you feel safe in your body, through the practices, you can also learn to feel safe with other women. There is no competition or expectation and you are never alone in what you’re experiencing. Allowing yourself to be seen and held in that way is a beautiful experience. The space provided is welcoming, safe and confidential so that you will feel at ease to step tenderly into your vulnerability and be witnessed from that place.
Womb yoga is accessible to all women no matter what phase of life you are in. The practices can be adapted to your needs. Whether you’re menstruating, ovulating, pregnant, post natal, menopausal, post menopausal or anywhere in between, you can benefit from this practice. You also do not need to have a physical womb in order to feel the nourishment from these practices and be welcomed into the space. We work with the energetics of the womb space which are the same regardless of whether your womb is present or not.
